What is Autolens?

At AutoLens, we aim to provide all the knowledge you pretty much need to not just confidently purchase your next used car, but also feel more at ease when it comes to keeping it going for a long time to come. …or to put it in a more Malaysian way, AutoLens hopes to become your next helpful unker, who has all the locally-applicable car knowledge and connections that helps you out on your next used car journey!

Why Autolens?

Very simply, it is because we curate all the things that Malaysians would want to know when considering the thought of buying and owning their next used car over here, all in one convenient place!

Among the resources we offer in each AutoLens used car guide includes:

• A curated selection of period reviews from trusted Malaysian automotive reviewers, in the three major languages of Malaysia.
• A detailed timeline of events of the car in question, highlighting the changes performed in each facelift/update/special edition, as well as any recalls that were announced.
• A compilation of common problems, as reported by actual Malaysian owners of these cars.
• A selection of recommended independent workshops, as recommended by actual Malaysian owners of these cars.
• A comprehensive set of technical specifications for each variant offered in Malaysia, with information obtained directly from the automakers themselves.

AutoLens prides itself on collecting and curating information from actual Malaysians who have owned the cars to feature in our guides. We trawl through the local owners clubs, consult people in the community and even dig out real local brochures to ensure (as best as we can) all that is written in our guides is as accurate and as relevant as possible. And yes, we know the website may look more than a bit janky for now. Everything here is a pretty low budget endeavour, from it being something developed by young petrolheads with more ambition than money/skill. But, we do hope all the information available will help you see past the shoddy presentation, and actually be helpful towards your used car buying and subsequent ownership experience.

AutoLens is a little project developed by four young Malaysians who have a bigger passion for cars than they do have money. Hence why their favourite pastime is trawling through used car marketplaces, always on the lookout for something that gets the petrol in their veins pumping, while not completely bleeding their wallets dry.

Buying used however is naturally fraught with potential financially-ruinous pitfalls, especially when eyeing up heavily-depreciated continental cars that could now be yours for pennies on the dollar when they were brand new. And the one thing that has constantly frustrated them before even looking at a specific used car for sale was just the difficulty in arming themselves with the knowledge on how best to avoid ending up with a lemon.

In fact, this endeavour pretty much began because one of us was venting his frustration on how difficult it is to find out what exactly tends to go wrong with a BMW E90 3-Series over here. So AutoLens was thus envisioned as a solution to this problem (and more), with pretty much all the information available here in our guides being a curation of what we would like to know about a certain used car when we eventually come to buy one for ourselves!
